Bah!

Let's take this in context. We do not like whaling either and the thin veneer of scientific whaling stinks. But...

In the past 31 years at the cost of millions and millions of dollars spent SS is still trying to stop the slaughter of whales, seals, and now sharks (the new give-us-money animal).

31 years of abject failure. Think about that.

31 years creating videos of whales being killed (seen that).

31 years of sea pirate story lines (done that).

31 years of guest appearances with B list Hollywood celebs (seen that).

31 years of ineffective, useless, and wasteful media output (done that).

And still whales are being killed, right now, as I write this. SS has a failed plan. They KNOW this.

It's a great plan to harpoon millions from well meaning donors, but what about the last 31 years of dead whales, seals and now sharks?

This is the main thrust of our ongoing expose of these guys. We used to donate to them, then we looked beyond the Green Curtain and saw a Fat, sweaty man from Canada, frantically pulling the levers of media for...what,exactly?

Look, if you want to treat these miscreants with a god like status they do not deserve and worship at the False Golden Eco Idol of Sea Shepherd - that is yours to do.

For us we DEMAND results. 31 years of the same recycled eco news is long enough. It is high time for this three ring circus to end. Surely if your plan does not work you try something, anything, to change tactics?

Love this blog - hate your SS politics;)

PS: Agreed that the Aussies have something going. If they have all the production notes and off camera stuff from Animal Planet - god help SS. The relationship with with this film crew may well do serious and lasting harm to Discovery Networks IF it is discovered that much of the filming being done is being directed by or in any way suggested by that film crew. With Peter Brown on board this is a very likely scenario. Brown is the media loon behind the abortive "Mind of a Demon" eco mockumentary that put a broken shark sub into a newly minted Bio Sphere and proceeded to make the entire story up from there. This film disaster was then sold to CBS for a prime time tale of sharks and...

http://www.cbs.com/specials/shark

Wagging the Conservation Dog is a lynching offense in the world community especially done in such a high profile manner with such a high media value animal. The next few months will serve as a tale of how not to get caught with your eco pants down around your ankles.

Thus endth this rant;)

31 years is really nothing when it comes to a movement. How long did it take for Slavery to be made illegal? For women to get the vote? For workers to get a 5 day work week? You get the idea. Sea Shepherd did not invent any of their own tactics either. They are using a political theater playbook that probably goes back to the days of Oedipus and Antigone.

Honestly though, if all the money that Sea Shepherd spends in their political theater campaigns were redirected to more mainstream and "respected" environmental orgs like Oceana or Greenpeace, would Japanese Whaling or the Canadian Seal nonsense be any closer to being stopped? I really don't think so.

For every person that sees their pirate show and is turned off by it, I am fairly certain there are at least three people that are more turned off by the Japanese Whaling show. Average people really are dumb and have short memories. People need new footage of the Seal clubbing and Whale harpooning shoved in their faces every day...they really really do. If there isn't new footage, they will forget. Besides, people love the pirate shit. Pirates are a cultural trope that are not going anywhere soon.

The IWC has been around for a long time too. Isn't all their bureaucratic posturing and endless series of political sideshows more absurd than Paul Watson's chest thumping? How much money is wasted by the IWC? I can say with confidence, it is much much more than Sea Shepherd. If the legitimate government regulatory agencies are unable to fix the problem why blame the messenger or the jester?

But Sea Shepherd is a much easier target...they fart in public and clown it up.

All of this is all academic. The real question is: But is their media circus hurting Whales and helping the Whaling industry? You know it isn't.

Also, their Shark policing program in the Galapagos is pretty damn good too.

And I know you know that all publicity is good publicity...so every time you or I or anyone else mentions Sea Shepherd in a post they are benefiting.

It is a big ocean out there, and there is room for all of us good guys--from responsible dive operators, to obsessive compulsive underemployed armchair wildlife enthusiasts with ADHD, to angry white kids with dreadlocks who like tossing rancid butter at Whalers while collecting their trust fund checks. No one here needs to be lynched...we need to save our rope for those on the other side of the enviro-fence.

There you go being all reasonable. Damn you sharky!

Perhaps the SS folks should hire you as their media shark. Seriously, the cat they got now is a dribbling moron who probably never heard of Oedipus or Antigone. Also let us be rid of the fat man with the massive ego. His toxic leadership has all but destroyed a great and noble idea.

Nice cultural reference there by the way.

31 years was longer than it took to put a man on the moon. I am not saying stop with the shocking whale kill footage, but stop with the fake gun shots, heart attacks, eczema scares, faked news reports, Whale Wars and the litany of "who rammed who".

It's all a pathetic side show designed to stir the average hard working, well meaning Jane and Joe, into shilling out another few dollars so they (SS) can go be absolutely not effective again for year 32.

Grinding on with Paul Watsons:

"Operation Hopeless Eco Onion".

You're right about one thing.People need to see and hear. The 1970's eco warrior mentality applied to You Tube and Twitter, Technocrati and the blog world is working against them. They are loosing this experiment in new media.

The arrogant thought that people will just swallow eco media garbage ad hoc is a harder nut to crack. We stand as front liners in that particular dog race.

Once you find yourself defending your position you have all but lost the effort:

http://www.seashepherd.org/news-and-media/editorial-090217-1.html

Whaling can be stopped. It should be stopped. Under the current 31 year management plan it has not stopped.I hold SS responsible for lifting peoples hopes each and every year only to dash them against the rocks with wasted efforts.

Gotta run, our paycheck from Japan just showed up.

Damn, it's in Yen...again!

You people have no idea of what you speak.

It is Greanpeace who has spent millions upon millions filling there pockets and going out each year to 'bear witness' to the horrific deaths of the Great Whales.

You are so stupid you cannot even see that it is the public, just as stupid as you are who has taken so long to take notice that Japan is a bunch of lying bastards who are out to exterminate the Great Whales.

At least Paul Watson is getting the word out and he is saving whales by his very presence. When the Nisshin Maru is moving, THERE IS NO WHALING GOING ON. There is a limited window of weather, and if he can keep them moving he saves whales.

Paul Watson has done more to save whales than and of you have. How about supporting his efforts and helping instead of sitting on your collective assholes and complaining. HE HAS BROKEN NO LAWS, NEVER BEEN ARRESTED AND NEVER INJURED ANYONE UNLIKE JAPAN WHO IS ILLEGALLY WHALING ENDANGERED SPECIES IN AN INTERNATIONALLY RECOGNIZED SANCTUARY IN VIOLATION OF THE UNITED NATIONS CHARTER FOR NATURE AND IN CONTEMPT OF THE AUSTRALIAN COURT RULING WHICH PROHIBITS THEIR VERY PRESENCE IN THE SANCTUARY, AND IN VIOLATION OF THE MORATORIUM ON WHALING.

You should be bad mouthing them not Sea Shepherd. By the way, if you were to help with a second boat, then there would not be any killing.

How about doing your research before putting your smelly disgusting foot in your mouth and spewing lies about Sea Shepherd.

And another thing...

If Paul had another boat, which would prevent Japan from killing any whales and therefore cost them millions and millions of dollars, THEY would stop whaling of their own accord.

Bonnie Jay is Starbird.

This goes to show you. SSCS radicals throwing verbal bombs "smelly foot" to back up what, exactly?

Please keep the convo worthwhile or at least come up with something good to throw, like-real-words.

The sad thing is that we at The Chum Slick are not attacking Sea Shepherd. While we think that Sea Shepherd may have management issues, we are not against radical action or the idea of Sea Shepherd in general. We have had many pro-Sea Shep posts in the past. We can understand if the hippies wanna fling poop over at Patric's site, because he is adamantly critical of Paul Watson and co., but we post about how Glenn Inwood should commit suicide and we get wrath? Lame. At least read the post Bonny Jay/Starbird. Glenn Inwood is one of Paul Watson's foes, but if some of us actually read the posts we would realize that.

The naysayers in the "conservation" movement that try to shoot down Sea Shepherd are a bunch of useless fucktards. Sea Shepherd saves whales. Greenpeace and the sierra club do not. Shit or get off the pot fuckers.

I really hope to hell that the Australian government releases the footage they stole.

I hate people doing those kind of stupidity. Do they have conscience for doing such things? I pity those whales. They are lovely to watch, why do people hurt them. I really hope this will stop.
