Chuck, Al, Debbie, and Co.: Unlikely Shark Heroes

Chuck Anderson--jammed by a Bull Shark in 2000--and Al Brenneka--jammed by a Lemon Shark in 1976--are among at least nine Shark Jam survivors in Washington this week to lobby the Senate to pass a bill that bans Shark Finning in all US waters. That's right! People who have been mauled by Sharks are in favor of Shark protection. Take that, all you jackasses who advocate Shark fishing in the name of "public safety."
The bill these heroes are lobbying, has already passed the House and is generally supported by every fishing regulator. It will not save Sharks because most finning is done in international waters. Still, if these people can confront their fear of Sharks, pretty much anyone with a brain can.
Another Shark Jammee, Debbie Salamone, puts it well:
"We're seriously scarred . . . and some of us are missing limbs, and we have every right to hate sharks. I think the message is: If we can see the value in saving sharks, everyone should."
It is rare, but sometimes I slide into a good mood. Thanks Chuck, Al, Debbie, and Co.
