Bile Bears: A Fate Worse Than Death
Got Bear Milk?

Actually this isn't Bear milk at all, it is Bear bile extracted from live Bears and used in Chinese "medicine" to treat everything from fever, to sore eyes, to importance. (It seems like the more morally objectionable an animal derived medicine is in traditional Chinese "medicine," the bigger it makes a man's dick.) There are over 7,000 Asiatic Bears kept in cages in Bear farms in China and over 4,000 Asiatic Bears kept in cages in Bear farms in Vietnam.

Bile is sucked from a Bear's gallbladder twice a day through a surgically implanted catheter. Each time .338 to .676 oz. is sucked from the bear and it is clearly painful. Bears moan and chew their paws during the process. (10–20 ml.) of bile each time. Milking is clearly painful for the bears, who are often seen moaning and chewing their paws during the process. Sometimes a Bear farmer will simply stab a Bear in the abdomen with a sharp stick and sponge up what they find under the cage. 50-60% of the Bears initially die from the process. The surviving Bears usually only last 3-years before so much scar tissue develops around their liver and gallbladder to prevent the formation of bile. Once their bile dries up, the Bears are chopped up and used in other traditional Chinese "medicines." Captive mother Bears are separated from their cubs at birth because they will try to eat them. This never happens with Bears in the wild. It is speculated that the existence for a Bear in a bile farm is so painful that a mother Bear will try to eat her own young to save them from a fate worse than death.

In this lovely picture you can clearly see bile seeping from a Moon Bear's infected gall bladder wound.
Hey Americans, aren't you happy this shit only happens in Asia? Oops! Hey, it happens here too!

The above asshole is Huong Tovan, he was popped in Redding, California trying to buy 5 Black Bear gall bladders from Bear poachers for $500 bucks each. American Black Bear gall bladders are a specialty item in China where they go for around $5000 each. In California a licensed hunter is allowed to kill one Black Bear a year legally during Bear season. This limit is stopped once the total number of Bears killed reaches 1,700. It is believed that hundreds more are killed over the limit, their parts smuggled to Asian countries.
The gall of some people!
